Week 22: So Far Away
“We’re changing things up a bit for Week 22 with the theme “So Far Away.” It’s a pretty vague theme, to be sure. You could write about an ancestor who is from someplace far away from where you live. You could explore an ancestor who migrated far during his or her lifetime. You could tell about a research experience in a distant library or archive. I’m curious to see what everyone comes up with!”

Goodness me it’s been weeks since I worked on #52Ancestors. I will have to get myself back into the zone to do them again.

So Far Away…

Growing up in Melbourne, and then moving to Western Australia, I grew up knowing that my Dad was Born in Tasmania, it always felt so far away, until I moved there in 2012. So it was one place I always wanted to explore. I got to see where he was born, and where my grandparents lived.

Fast forward to a few months ago and finding out that my Great Grandmothers family are all Tasmanian (several of them coming out here as convicts and settling in Tasmania)… In a town where I didn’t get to explore.

Tasmania now feels so far away..

I was living in Tasmania and researching the same Great Grandmother (he details where still a mystery back then). She is buried in Creswick Victoria. I was on Billion Graves or Find a Grave. So Far Away…

Earlier this year I got to make that treck and stand at my GG’s graveside, and pay my respects to her.

There are still questions and most days the answers seem out of reach and

so far away…

But I am working on them piece by piece.
